Hotels in tourism sites from Nha Trang City of Khanh Hoa province in the central region to the south have quoted a slight increase in hotel room rate.

Sai Gon Tiep Thi newspaper has quoted travel firms as reporting that hotels in Nha Trang City, Phu Quoc Island and Phan Thiet attracted the most guests in 2018.

Of these, Phu Quoc Island continued to attract a high number of guests as the island has become an emerging tourism destination.

Phu Quoc has over 500 hotels with more than 7,000 rooms, which received 3.9 million travelers last year, including 540,000 foreign travelers. The hotel room rate increased 5-8 percent.

To stay in a 3-star hotel room, travelers usually pay VND1.2-1.5 million per night. The rates are VND1.8-2.3 million for a 4-star hotel and VND3.5 million for a 5-star hotel.

Meanwhile, Phan Thiet City with Mui Ne beach area never loses its charm thanks to geographical wonders, traditional fishing villages, pristine beaches and verdant mountains. Tourists are mostly independent travellers who are not on tours. There are about 4,000 hotel and resort rooms in the city, half of which are 3-5 star.

According to the Binh Thuan provincial Tourist Association, the average occupancy rate is 58-60 percent. However, travelers mostly flock there on weekends and holidays.

Analysts predict that the hotel room rate in the region will be 3-5 percent higher this year: $40 (VND900,000) for a 3-star room for one night, $60-70 for 4-5-star room (VND1.4-1.6 million).

This might be good news for travelers who plan to go to Nha Trang. In previous years, tourists found it easier to book hotel rooms but large groups of tourists complained it was difficult to find hotel rooms.

However, there are now 30,000 hotel rooms. The rates in Nha Trang are not low, but close to that of Phu Quoc. A 3-star hotel room has a rate of VND1 million for one night, while a 4-star room is VND1.5-2 million.

If travelers want to go to Da Lat, on ordinary days, they will have to pay VND800,000 for a 3-star hotel room and VND1.3 million for a 4-star. But if they book rooms for holidays and weekends, the price will be 50 percent higher.
