The national television channel VTV is still not ready to provide VTV-produced TV channels on the internet as it needs to carefully consider technical solutions to copyright protection, according to a VTV Digital representative.

On May 29, Android TV Box users noticed that Clip TV and FPT Play both suspended the TV signal broadcast of VTV channels (from VTV2 to VTV9). Only VTV1 is still broadcast on the two systems.

FPT Play and Clip TV have sent notice to their clients about the suspension of VTV channels, saying that the involved parties still have no agreement on copyright. Both of them have committed to negotiate with VTV soon to resume the broadcasting of the channels.

Buu Dien news website reported that on May 29, some OTT service providers began to stop the broadcasting of some VTV channels. MyTV Net of MyTV, for example, only kept broadcasting four VTV channels, while Flix broadcast two channels only – VTV1 and VTV3.

OTT service providers at the same time received a document from VTV about copyright infringement of VTV’s ongoing hot films.

Some OTT service providers sent documents to VTV asking for permission to broadcast VTV channels on their platforms, but VTV said it was not ready to provide VTV-produced TV channels on the internet.

VTV recently had working sessions with many parties, requesting them to comply with the copyright law when using VTV’s programs.

Clip TV and FPT Play suspension of VTV’s channels has stirred up the Android TV Box community of 20,000 members.

However, a mini survey conducted by ICTnews found that the suspension of VTV channel broadcasting on OTT infrastructure has had no significant influence on the use of Android, as watching TV is just one of many apps.

On Clip TV’s OTT platform, for example, there are tens of other TV channels and apps, including music, VOD film store, games and karaoke.

Android TV Box device distributors said Android TV Box providers can install VTVGo for Smart TV, an app specifically developed by VTV Digital for Android TV Box. The app allows users to watch all VTV channels.

A representative of VTV Digital also said VTV’s move won’t affect OTT service users.

Internet users can watch VTV’s channels, from VTV1 to VTV9, with VTV GO, the OTT app officially provided by Vietnam Television, or watch on vtvgo.vn.
