The group of students from FPT University included Ton That Bao and Nguyen Trung Tin, and Bruneians Aidee, Masdey and Anas.

FPT University belongs to FPT, the Vietnamese largest information technology group.

The students worked at FPT UBD Innovation Lab, a technological training center established following a visit in November 2017 by Bruneian Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah to the FPT UBD Global Center.

The center was set up with collaboration between UBD (Universiti Brunei Darussalam) and FPT University. Since its establishment, education relations between the two countries have expanded.

With a wish to use new technologies in warehouse management, FPT UBD Innovation Lab suggested that students write warehouse management software for a Brunei state unit. The opportunity to implement the project was offered to students at FPT University and UBD.

Ton That Bao, student at FPT University, noted that electronics warehouse management is carried out manually. Goods pile up in warehouse, and the arrangement is unclear and methodical, thus making it difficult to take stock of goods. The group of students decided to create a mobile app that would help inventory.

By using algorithms and putting all data on websites and mobile apps, information management is optimized. Managers can update information that improved inventory, arranges goods and helps reduce time and costs.

The product was praised by the scientific council and representative of the Brunei state unit.

Bao and Tin had internships at the On the Job Training at FPT UBD center, established in Brunei in 2017.

The lab at the center gathers people from many institutions, from students to workers from companies, offices and the government. This gives students opportunities to learn and practice.

“I made friends with people who are older than me. They helped me a lot,” he said.

Bao said that the development of a project overseas allowed students to undergo valuable practice. Not only did they discover a new culture but they also learned how to become independent.

“We created a product to be used in real life. We didn’t just present a theory,” he said.
