The information was released at a press conference held by the national contest’s organisers in Hanoi on June 11.

First prize for the National Press Awards 2014 will be given to nine works - the largest number to date, according to the Vice Chairman Ha Minh Hue of the Vietnam Journalists’ Association (VJA).

Second prizes will be awarded to 26 works, while 54 third prizes will be conferred and 29 consolation prizes. This year, Nhan Dan (People) newspaper won three second prizes and one third prize.

The winning works are outstanding pieces of journalism that have investigated new matters, having a profound influence on society and covering the topics of Party building, sea and island sovereignty and economics, and contributing to the fight against corruption and false allegations, Hue said.

The National Press Awards 2014 attracted 1,468 entries in 11 categories. Last year's awards honoured 115 works.
