2018 Spring Press Review

Vietnamese leaders’ New Year messages and major national events last year were front-paged on the lunar New Year edition of newspapers. Vietnamese people at home and abroad jubilantly celebrating the New Year has been reported widely.

The entire Party and people are determined to build up the Communist Party of Vietnam with purity and strength as a precondition of national prosperity. The message was conveyed by Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in his interview with national daily newspaper Nhan Dan. He hailed last year’s surpassing of all socio-economic targets, including a 6.81% GDP growth rate and improved national image in the world.

The Liberated Sai Gon featured major foreign affairs achievements, especially Vietnam’s successful organization of the 2017 APEC Year. President Tran Dai Quang was quoted as saying that the success created new momentum for international integration and a new phase of national development.

The Great Solidarity interviewed Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh, who cited the international community’s strong support and appreciation of Vietnam’s role in hosting November’s APEC Economic Leaders’ Week in Da Nang by the representation of leaders from all member countries.

The New Hanoi newspaper hailed the 2017 APEC Year as a milestone in Vietnam’s 30 years of integration by harmoniously seeking common ground and promoting similarities for further APEC cooperation.

The Business Week praised Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc’s determination to comprehensive integration, especially in economic areas, considering it an engine for economic reform and growth.

Other newspapers including the daily People’s Army editorial highlighted major socio-economic achievements. Vietnam reached the highest growth rate for 6 years last year with an export revenue of more than US$213 billion. The People’s Army praised the whole Party and people’s efforts for this comprehensive progress.

Voice of Vietnam newspaper listed the top ten most outstanding events last year, including all-out socio-economic achievement and the APEC Year 2017.

The Vanguard newspaper reporters featured Tet celebrations in Truong Sa archipelago where soldiers stay firmly on duty for national sovereignty protection.

The Great Solidarity reported on New Year celebrations by Overseas Vietnamese as some 4.5 million Viet Kieu are living in 109 countries and territories.

The Spring editions praised the success of Vietnamese sports, including the Vietnamese U23 football squad winning a silver medal in the Asian Championship.

The newspaper has full coverage of this year zodiac figure of the Year of the Dog as human’s best friend and its symbol of luck and joyfulness.
