The event’s highlight will be Czech composer Antonin Dvorak’s Symphony No 9 in E Minor, “From the New World”, op 95, B 178.

The four-movement symphony was composed in 1893 when Dvorak was the director of the National Conservatory of Music of America.

It premiered in New York the same year and has since been popular and performed across Europe.

The concert will also highlight excerpts from operettas composed by Austro-Hungarian Franz Lehár and Hungarian Emmerich Kálmán.

They include Die Lustige Witwe (The Merry Widow), Zigeunerliebe (Gypsy Love), Das Veilchen vom Montmartre (The Violet of Montmartre), Die Csardasfurstin (The Gypsy Princess), and Kaiserin Josephine.

They will be sung by South Korea’s Cho Hae Ryoung, Phạm Khánh Ngọc, Đào Mác and Phạm Trang.

Trần Nhật Minh, a graduate of the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, will wield the baton for the concert.

Minh has won top prizes at international and national contests such as the International Competition for Young Conductors in Vladivostok, Russia, in 2003, and the annual All-Russia Competition for Professional Conductors in 2006.

He also won the first prize at the 2009 Việt Nam National Competition of Voice-Dance and Music and the 2014 International Choral Festival organised by Interkultur in Hội An.

He has performed with orchestras in Russia, France and Italy.

The concert will begin at 8pm. Tickets are available at the venue at 7 Lam Sơn Square, District 1.
